27-AUG-2009 Greetings again from the Ryan David camp. I’m on two hours sleep and my brain is moving in slow motion at the moment so bare with me. I was up until 5:00AM recording vocals last night. Recording tends to give me insomnia. When I finally get to bed after a recording session my brain refuses to switch off and sleep evades me, sometimes for hours. That’s just part of the deal. You come to expect it after a while. So ... over the past two weeks I’ve been recording two more songs – Leaving You and Sunset 101. The latter may be renamed Ocean Paradise but the jury is still out on that one. We’ll get back to you when a verdict has been reached. Both of these songs were written over three years ago, in early 2006 I believe. I’ve had crappy “one take” demo versions of these songs on my iPod since then. From time to time I would listen back to them and wonder what they would sound like if recorded properly. Needless to say, it is exciting to hear these songs come to life in the studio. Basic tracks (drums/bass /guitar) and vocals are now done for both songs. Sunset 101 also has a piano part. Now the finishing touches shall be applied and hopefully I’ll have one of these tracks online in the next couple of weeks. I think I’ll focus on getting Leaving You finished first. This song is pretty upbeat and has a sweet groove to it. Despite the title it is not a ballad. The lyrics are obviously about one person (me) leaving another (you), but portrayed in a somewhat playful manner. Hard to explain. I guess you just have to hear it. Needles to say, you won’t need Kleenex for that one I promise. Sunset 101 was born from being burned out and needing to get away. At the time of its writing I was recording Melotia’s first album and I had hit a brick wall. I was spending every day and night month after month locked up in our studio recording by myself and the workload had begun to wear me down. I’m excited to get both songs finished and online.
