Time flies when you're having fun! Things have been pretty hectic in my world as usual. I've been doing band practices 3-4 nights a week as we have a show coming up at The Whisky on Sunday 28th June. On top of that, we are also playing the night before at On The Rox on Sunset Blvd. That show is an AIDS benefit and we're performing a few songs to help the cause. The venue has more of a "relaxed" vibe so we're toning it down for this one and playing semi-acoustically. Should be a good time!
It's been a creative week for me. I've been working on a handful of new songs with the band and I'm really excited about the direction we're going in. We're incorporating some electronic elements into the sound - synthesizers, strings and even some drum loops. One song in particular has me extremely excited. It's called We Are The Chosen and it just has "that thing" ... We're going to be playing it live at The Whisky show. Can't wait for that!!!
Ok, so the solo recording stuff is definitely in progress. Let me back track here for a second. Back in 2006 whilst Melotia was recording drums for Every Waking Moment I took the opportunity to record drum tracks for nine of my solo songs. We were in drum recording mode and it seemed like a good chance to knock out some tracks whilst all the equipment was set up and ready to go. Since then the tracks have sat on a hard drive in my studio untouched. I've recently pulled them out of the vault, listened through them and now I am preparing to record music for a few of them. Very exciting. My problem has been deciding what song to do first. The two tracks I'm most interested in doing first are called Leaving You and Feeling Fear. I still haven't decided what one to work on first but this weekend I will be getting some guitars recorded for one of them!
What else ... Some travel will be happening this year. I'm heading to Australia via Singapore in October. I'll be back in Australia for two weeks. Since moving to LA I've only returned to Australia once (January 2005) so I am definitely looking forward to this visit. There has been some talk about the possibility of me playing a show whilst there. At this stage it is just talk and nothing is concrete. Hopefully I can work something out with that.
Life is good. Keeping my head down and my chin up. Thanks for reading....
